Pronunciación

One of the fantástico things about Español is that, once you learn how to pronounce the letters, they are always pronounced the same way!

A says ahhhhhh as in taco
E says eh as in elefante
I says eeeee as in burrito
O says o as in taco
U says ewww (rhymes with boo!) as in uno
Y says eeeee as in chicos y chicas

Many of the consonants in the Spanish alphabet are pronounced like the letters in English, with the following exceptions:

H is always silent, as in Hola
J sounds like h as in jirafa
LL sounds like Y as in tortilla
Ñ is an N-Y sound as in piñata
Q sounds like a k as in queso
R – roll the r with your tongue on the roof of your mouth to say fruta
RR – roll the rr with your tongue even longer to say burrito
Z sounds like s as in zanahoria
